Palm Beach society: Canapes, but no crullers

The Palm Beach home -- well, palace, actually -- of Ann and Charles Johnson was the setting for a cocktail reception introducing the new Palm Beach Police and Fire Foundation.

The event took place Nov. 14 and also served as the kickoff for the annual gala.

The Policeman’s and Fireman’s Ball, as it will be called, is already completely sold out.

More Palm Beach society news here.

In July, after nearly 14 years of solely supporting the Palm Beach Police Department, the foundation’s board voted to include the fire-rescue as beneficiaries under the foundation’s philanthropic management.

The organization was renamed The Palm Beach Police & Fire Foundation, and its Palm Beach Policemen’s & Firemen’s Ball will benefit the town’s public safety workers in both departments.

The evening included cocktails, hors d’oeuvres -- no doughnuts! -- music, and brief remarks from Tim Moran, the foundation’s senior vice president and co-founder, who welcomed guests and introduced John F. Scarpa, president and co-founder.

The evening also included the announcement that Christine and Bob Stiller will be honored at the gala as recipients of the 2020 Palm Tree Award.

Monika Preston and Annie Falk are chairwomen of the gala, which takes place Jan. 18 at the Mar-a-Lago Club. John Preston and Michael Falk are chairman.

Honorary ambassadors are Eileen and Brian Burns, and Richard and Sandra Bornstein are vice chairman and vice chairwoman.

More than 175 people attended the reception.

Proceeds from the ball will fund public safety support programs; academic scholarships for qualified public safety department family members; new equipment for the departments; and assistance to public safety workers in need in times of distress.
